I really didn’t know what to expect when I decided to move to Wales. People asked me, Why don’t you move to California to be near your family and enjoy some good weather?
Oh yes, the weather. That is definitely something I considered.
The weather is an entity I am in relationship with here in the UK. That’s not the case in Southern California, where you hardly notice each other. Every day I show up for the weather in Wales–and it shows up for me. It threatens rain. The sun comes out. I run out to feel the warmth. It hides the light immediately. The wind lifts me off the ground. I love being up so high, but scream to be put down. It delights me, surprises me, astonishes me. Then it rains and rains and rains.
It was almost like a calling. Come here and become a seeker of illumination. The light is a drug I’ve become addicted to–I’m always looking for its thrilling presence through the clouds, beyond the rain, reflected in the sea. It reveals the purest form of joy I’ve ever known because this searching makes me feel alive.
